2009 Summer Debate Camps

Baylor Debate Workshop: The camp begins July 12 and continues through July 23.  Applications are due June 19.  Two week labs are offered in LD and policy.  The cost for the two week lab is $1,300.  A one week lab focusing on UIL events (policy and LD) is also offered.  It costs $650.  There will be an additional Teacher's Workshop for one week at $650.

Cal National Debate Institute: There are two policy camps offered.  The two-week camp will begin on June 28-July 11.  Commuters will pay $1,300 and non-commuters $1,800.  The three-week policy camp begins June 21-July 11.  Commuters will pay $1,750 and non-commuters $2,500.

Gonzaga Debate Institute: The GDI is the largest summer institute in the west and has earned a reputation as one of the top high school debate institutes in the nation. Last year over 200 students from 40 states attended programs at the GDI.  The GDI is sponsored by the Gonzaga University Debate Progam and all events are held on our beautiful campus in Spokane, Washington.

Regardless of your skill level, argument preference, or experience the GDI can help you achieve your goals. Florida Forensics Institute: FFI will be held in Cooper City Florida.  They offer a two week session for Public Forum and Individual Events starting July 17 and running through July 31, with a possible extension to August 3.  A Coaches' clinic is also available during the normal two week session.  Details on costs can be found on their website.

Iowa's National Summer Institute in Forensics: The University of Iowa offers a two or three-week Lincoln-Douglas Debate and a three-week Policy Debate Institute.  Dates are June 22-July 12 for the three week option, but ends on July 4 for the two week.  Costs range from $1,450 for the two week to $2,000 for the three week.

Michigan Debate Institute: There are several session between June 21 and August 8.  2008 University of Michigan Debate Institutes Alums This Year Have: Won 28 TOC Bid Tournaments- Harvard, Berkeley, Barkley Forum, Montgomery Bell Academy, The Glenbrooks, St. Mark's, Greenhill, Michigan, Stanford, University of Southern California, Ohio Valley, Wake Forest, Grapevine, Georgetown Day, Houston Memorial, Meadows, Iowa Caucus, Marquette, Dowling, Maine East, Golden Desert, Gonzaga, Westminster, Valley, Fullerton, Omaha Westside, Blue Key, and Long Beach. 172 TOC Bids Received This Year Thus Far! Every 2006 Michigan camper will receive a readable PDF CD at the conclusion of the camp containing all the evidence produced by the camp they attended!

Missouri State Debate Institute: This year's camp will have a 3 week option (costing $500 for commuters and $1050 for non-commuters), in addition to the two week option ($700 for commuters and $1,400 for non-commuters). The three week camp will be structured as a two week camp, plus an add-on week. The add-on week will include more practice rounds, advanced theory training, an additional tournament, additional positions, and greater research depth. It's almost like getting a 2nd camp - minus the introductory lectures!  The camp will start on June 21st for both options.  Ending on July 4th for those in the two week and July 11th for the three week. 

MSDI graduates have consistently dominated the local debate circuit, and several other circuits. Many have qualified to NFL Nationals, the Tournament of Champions, and received sizeable college debate scholarships - in several cases, far above their cost of attending MSDI.

Spartan Debate Institutes:  Debate Central's Chris Burk works at the Spartan Debate Institute!  The camp offers two, three, four and a new fifth week sessions in CX debate to accommodate all ages and experience levels.  It is held as Michigan State University.  The cost of the five week session is $1,000 alone, or $4,200 for all five weeks.  The four week session is $3,350.  The three week session costs $1,600 and the two week session costs $1,100.

SDI Alumni have won tournaments or Top Speaker awards at the Tournament of Champions, St. Marks, the Glenbrooks, the Michigan-Michigan State Round Robin, NCFL Nationals, and various state championships. Many have gone on to succeed at the very highest levels of intercollegiate debate, including receiving the Copeland award for the top intercollegiate debate team, as well as reaching late elimination rounds at CEDA Nationals and the NDT.

The Stanford National Forensic Institute:  The SNFI offers programs in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Policy, Parliamentary Debate, and Individual Events. Dates for 2009 vary between July 23- August 19 for Core, Swing, and Accelerated Programs.  Costs range from $950-$3,495.

University of Richmond National Debate Institute:  At the URNDI, you will learn about the intersection of policy and philosophy as well as the techniques of successful debate and research. You will be in a lab of no more than 10 students, allowing personal instruction and many opportunities for practice debates and rebuttal re-works. Students attending the URNDI will work with two national champion debaters and Professors of Rhetoric, not to mention members of the nationally competitive Richmond debate team. This intense research and debate workshop will tackle the policy and Lincoln-Douglass debate resolutions announced by the National Forensic League in February of this year. We only offer thee sessions (one week, two week, and three week), from July 5th to July 25th, so enroll soon. The cost for the program is between $1,400 and $3,000.

University of North Texas Mean Green Workshops:  The Mean Green Workshops were established in 2003 to provide a nationally-competitive institute dedicated to the individual needs of diverse students. Designed for students of all levels of experience, the Workshops strive to meet your competitive needs, whether winning regionally or on a national tier. The institute directors are driven to bring some of the brightest and most talented instructors to the region and are equally dedicated to ensuring continued excellence at an affordable price. In 2007, 253 students attended the workshops and enjoyed a student to faculty ratio of 4:1.  Sessions are offered in policy, LD, student congress, public speaking, and public forum.  Options are available to attend for 2, 3, or 4 weeks.  Prices and details can be found on their website.

University of Texas Institute of Forensics: UTNIF will hold multiple camps from June 22-August 3.  LD and Policy camps will be held and the costs range from $1,300-$5,300.

One of the oldest student programs at the University of Texas, the forensic program was organized on October 5, 1883 as the Athenaeum Literary Society, which established as its ultimate goal the "training and developing of its members in forensics" through "the awakening of a vital interest in cultural and literary pursuits and the discussion and explanation of current problems." Each of the teams has continued to attend the AFA National Individual Events Tournament and the National Debate Tournament every year since that time, hosting the NIET in 2008 and the NDT in 2009.
